100 million people were deemed homeless in the last attempted global survey, which was in 2005. Another estimated 1.6 billion people were refugees living in slums, inadequate housing, and temporary shelters. The crisis is alarming and action needs to be taken. Domestic violence, poverty, and unemployment are leading causes contributing to homelessness. Our community shelters are disappearing due to a massive lack of funds.  Thousands of homeless citizens behind the poverty line are currently struggling to make ends meet.
